How did the world become the world’s largest music app?
Amazons music app got the Grammy for Best Dance Music App for the first time on Tuesday, becoming the largest music service to win an award.
The company, owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, announced the new record-setting achievement on its website, with the winner going to Spotify, which took home the award for Best Music App in 2017.
Amazon Music was first launched in 2008, with users able to download music from streaming services like Apple Music and Rdio.
In 2017, the service surpassed 500 million monthly active users.
“This is a truly exciting time for Amazon Music.
We are truly honored to be awarded this prestigious award for our work and the music that we create, and we look forward to sharing more of our vision for the future of music in the coming years,” said Jim Ross, chief executive of Amazon Music in a statement.
Spotify, the leading digital music service, is owned by Google, and won a record three Grammys in 2018.
The company also won Best New Artist in 2018, for “The Black Keys” and Best Rap Album in 2018 and 2018.
